ABOUT THE TROUPE

![]() ![]() ![]() |
The troupe was formed in 1989 by Martin and Betty Hibbert and is affiliated to the United Kingdom Federation of Majorettes. The members are from the Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Paddock Wood areas and take part in Carnivals and Displays during the summer, and also in competitions during the winter. The troupe has dedicated members which has seen them achieve Kent Area winners for three times in the last few years. All skills from Beginner to Advanced are taught as well as solo to group skills. The members are shown how to achieve success through their own hard work, whilst having fun enjoying their sport.
Training Sessions The troupe normally has two practise sessions a week. One is on Thursday evenings, and the other on Saturday mornings both in the Southborough area. Both of these training periods are split into age related groups, with the Juveniles occupying one session and the Juniors and Seniors occupying the second session. It is preferred for members to attend both Thursday and Saturday sessions, but as the members get older this is not always possible with school assignments and part-time work. Session subs are paid for at the beginning of each month. Anyone interested in joining can find out more about practise times and costs by telephoning Betty or Martin on 01892 680771 for more details, or email us at tristartwirlers@aol.com
Technical Ability. The members are encouraged to reach as high as their ability will allow. The United Kingdom Federation of Majorettes have a grading system where members can take grades and progress from beginner up through the different levels to reach a very high standard. As well as the baton twirling grades there are also three grades for Mace leading to Mace Major, and grades for Flag, Ribbon, Wheel and Pom Poms. Passing the first grade puts members onto the road to success, as this achievement gives them confidence and encourages them to take the next grade. It is not long before they feel part of the troupe and also that they have achieved a standard that is recognised. |
